Bridge, Blackwater, county Wexford

I wonder what lies have been told to tourists about this little building beside the bridge.

I wonder too ... !!

I bet you can come up with some great suggestions ... ;-)

Story #1 it was built for a dog that used to sit there every day waiting for the return of his master that was tragically drowned when the water was high, the dog named Fred did not move from the spot for 5 years and eventually perished from hunger. The house was then blocked up!

Story #2 legend has it that this was the home of the youngest son of the king of the Leinster faeries (Americans read Leprechauns). To help his father he traveled as far south as he could to receive important messages from another chief, being a faerie he could not cross the stream, so he had a little house built beside the river!

how am I doing so far

Very well!! That story about the dog is so sad, quite moving. Poor Fred ... !! :-(

Alas poor dear Fred the loyal golden haired fictional dog, I shed a tear for him as I passed over the bridge :'(

what story would you come up with

Alas, poor Fred!!

Let's see, what would I come up with. Probably something cynical about how the guild of tour guides built it to have something to make up bizarre stories about for the tourists, and they have a contest each year to see who can have furriners believe the craziest lie.

I prefer the Fred one though ... ;-)

Fred was the best damned made up dog that I ever came across, he not only saved many lives he once dragged a blind orphan child out of a burning orphanage cured the kids eyesight and then found the child a great foster home, ironically it was found out after Freds death that the foster parents were the childs natural parents.
He correctly predicted the Chernobyl disaster and the fall of comunism, among other things but alas no one believed him. There are a great many other stories but they would take a lifetime to go through.
Fred RIP

Sean O’ Brien Luxembourg (native of Blackwater) says why not verify the storey of Fred with the patrons of the Saucers pub (Larry Whelan) should get an honest answer there!

Sean I think there might be more suggestions in the Saucers pub, it might make for a good night
