Tyrellspass Castle, Co. Westmeath

This is the last Castle of the Tyrell family friends of the O'neill Clan, who in the nine year war defeated the English, for their troubles when Cromwell came over to Ireland most of the family were executed, the castle was in disrepair for many years until it was restored in the 1970's. It is not open to the public but there is a nice restaurant on the ground floor.

Wow, you better take me on sightseeing some time!;) I love old castles and buildings! :D

Leisha, the menu is basic but good, I would have taken a picture inside for you but the other diners might not have been impressed with that.
Hilðe I commented before to findabair that if she ever came over again I would bring her to see some sites that are not on the bus tours, I will extend that to you as well, but that applies to the west the more scenic side of the country.

Madam, you of course would get the VIP treatment, that goes without saying, only the other two expressed an interest in coming to Ireland.
I will have to highlight that my house is not fully completed and I will be gone for a month between feb/march

It goes without saying! Aww! Thank you! ;-)

I do too want to go to Ireland - I want to go everywhere that I haven't already been, and Ireland looks like one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. But I'm going to France first, I think. But who knows ... ??

It will be better, to go to France first and then I might have more rooms completed in house, then you can stay in my home and I will take a week off and show you sights. I am going on record to say I will only offer this to you 3.

Let the record so show. :-)

This is starting to sound like the beginnings of a plan, methinks ... Findabair, I hope you see this. ;-)

I do see this - indeed the beginnings of a plan :) Very sweet of you, Paz!

I really like the first photo in particular - the teeth-like things on top of the tower against the gloomy grey sky :)

I just came across this photo of the castle in Tyrellspass. I use to take dance lessons there when I was a very young girl. How amazing that it is now a restaurant. If I ever get back to Ireland I shall definitely be there. Living in America now for many years, but Tyrellspass is always home to me Grace

hope you have not got the accent yet, my brother is in NY and though he has not picked up the accent, everything is awesome.
