Castlecomer county Kilkenny

These are 2 bridges that used to be on the route from Castlecomer to Kilkenny city, the first one is mostly there while time has not been well for the other.

There are so many lovely old bridges in Ireland ... ! :-o

Since you say that the one in the first picture is 'mostly there', I assume that means that it isn't in use as part of a road?

I don't think I'd want to drive on a bridge that is just 'mostly there' ...

A lot of the national routes, have built new bridges along the routes and the older bridges are left to fall to ruin. In one place an old hump back bridge is been used by the "Travelling" (our gypsies) community as a place to live, the reason I have the " is because the politically correct name keeps being changed (and they do not travel that much).

Hello Paz, I would like to let your subscribers know,"If they have or now of anyone that has Scarf(All variant spellings) surname the following. My cousin Darryl Scarff from Sydney,Australia is flying to Ireland in Feb 09 to witness a hand engraved plaque installed on the gates of the St. Lazerian Cathedral, in Old Leighlan where many of our families came from prior to emigration, before the famine. The plaque will date our families back as far as 1515.
I too am hoping to be there to witness this.

Hello Paz, I just returned from Ireland where we had the memorial service for my Scarf/Scarff/Scariff/Scharf families and witnessed the installation of the memorial plaque in the cemetery at St.Lazerians Church in Old Leighlen. We had 50 some family members and extended family members in attendance. Your country is absolutely beautiful and I plan on returning next year for a full month.
