Cork Buttevent to Beara

I will admit that these were not taken this week, because of the weather. Gives me an excuse to put up older pics I took. This is the sunrise in Buttevent in Cork, this could be one of the last picture of a summer sunrise from this location as there are plans to bring the new Limerick to Cork motorway across the middle of this lovely view. This is the Black lake along the mountain pass in the Beara peninsula. I am not sure if it because of the fact it is shadowed by the mountains or that the land tends to be peat that it gets its name. While driving past the black lake I was following a German tourist that braked suddenly at the top of the mountain pass, when I got there I saw the reason, there was a huge drop away and the road meandered down the mountain following the contours of the landscape. This is further south along the peninsula, this is what the Sat nav picked as the quickest route, it was just slightly better than a dirt road. There was also nowhere to let oncoming traffic though.

Me too, it's beautiful.

Paz, when you say 'the new Limerick to Cork', you mean what, the railway? The road? Aw, a road would ruin the view. :-( A railway on the other hand IMO can be quite picturesque, often ... but it depends how much they mess the area up laying the tracks ...

meant to put Limerick to Cork Moterway, going to ruin one of the valleys each side of that Hill.

I would hate to see a motorway across that landscape. But then I'm not surprised, when they can even as much as consider building a motorway practically across the Hill of Tara :(

I saw saw where the hippy protesters buried themselves in Tara, they made this beautiful historical spot an eyesore, it looked like a refugee camp, they defiled a national heritage area, it was a publicity stunt. The real friends of Tara fought where the road was being built not 2km away from the battlefield buried bon a monument. It was as effective an the Suicide squad from the life of brian movie.

Sorry for the rant but that really pi$$ed me off to see the protesters damage an area that was not under threat to protect an area 2km away. I do not agree where the road went but it was there they should have made a stand.
